What is Guru Purnima and what it means?


Guru Purnima is carried out on the Full-Moon Day (Purnima) in the Hindu Lunar Month of Aashaadha (June -July).

"Guru" usually combines two words formed through the Sanskrit language, where "gu" signifies "The Darkness" and "ru" means to "removal of darkness". Therefore "Guru" leads their disciples through enlightenment and gets them out of the darkness.

While Guru Purnima is the day to honor one's primary Guru, you can achieve the wisdom and knowledge from multiple Gurus, It is an occasion to express your gratitude to your all mentors, teachers, and all others who helped you to enlighten your inner self, who helped you in your growth and understanding.


Practicing the Rituals:


General Rituals include waking up early, taking a holy bath, wearing clean clothes, performing puja, and offering fruits and flowers to their gurus. Disciples usually offer flowers and coconut as a symbol of gesture to their gurus.

Chanting mantras and reading spiritual textures and engaging yourself in meditation are also some of the common practices on the day of Guru Purnima.
